The high level of temperature in the combustor incinerates all particles in the smoke produced.

The burning of smoke in the combustor results in the emission of much cleaner smoke. Combustor need to be cleaned yearly in order to keep them properly functional. Non-catalytic fireplaces on the other hand use secondary air tubes. In these models, smoke is combined with hot air to burn all by-products.
