Tips For Choosing Beautiful Handmade Necklaces

By Stephanie Cox

Most people have jewelry lying around in their drawers. Some of these items may have been selected for you, while you may have bought others yourself. The next time you want to buy yourself or a friend something nice, consider getting beautiful handmade necklaces. These trinkets not only support local entrepreneurs but are also made to suit you or the person you are buying wearer.

Necklaces come in many categories based on their length. They range from chokers which are about fourteen inches, to lariats, which are over thirty inches and can be draped around the neck a number on times. The materials used to make these items can range from lace to metal. Therefore, to choose the right piece, you need to look at some factors.

Most clothes and accessories are either made for men or women although some can be worn by either gender. When buying for yourself, this will not be problematic, but for other people, you have to think about their physical traits, their sex being one of them. You can be a bit adventurous when buying for women since most of them have versatile wardrobes. With men, however, choose things that will not be too loud.

The personality and regular dress code of the wearer also need to be considered. Flashy items with large gemstones or colorful materials will flatter outgoing people, while someone who is more reserved, might prefer a plain chain. Additionally, if they are a casual dresser, then something with pearls and many glittering stones may not be suitable.

Most people are not very concerned with knowing whether they have warm or cool toned skin. You should be able to tell where you fall by comparing how you look in both gold and silver jewelry and then choosing the one that falters you most. It is also advisable not to choose items with pendants, or gemstones that clash with your eyes or hair. This is especially necessary if either feature is a conspicuous color.

Some people have allergies to certain metals or materials, and you, therefore, have to consider this as well. You may also find that a vegan may not be very comfortable wearing something with a leather strap. When you are buying for someone with sensitive skin, choose pieces made from sterling silver, or gold above fourteen karats.

Things bought at the flea market will not cost the same as those bought at an upmarket shop. Therefore, keep in mind that although the material used will determine the price, so will the location of the jeweler. Most people avoid handmade items because they can sometimes be pricey. However, the quality of these pieces is usually higher, and the detailing may also be more precise.

There are some jewelry makers who will offer you excellent services and good quality items, based in Kansas. Look out for stores that not only sell jewelry but also appraise precious stones, and fix damaged necklaces. Places like these are less likely to peddle knockoffs, and in case your clasp breaks or some of the crystals fall off, they can replace them for you.
