Looking For Ohio University Apartments

By Elizabeth Kelly

In most cases when a student decides to attend a university it will involve leaving home and finding a place to live near to their place of study. A large number of universities have block accommodation on site but this is often oversubscribed. When trying to find Ohio university apartments there is a little homework to be done first.

The first thing to calculate is what your budget is and whether it is going to be affordable. A 1 bedroom apartment in Athens, OH will cost approximately 600 dollars per month which includes some basic appliances and furniture. A 3 bed will come in at around 1500 dollars but bear in mind that utility bills will be charged according to usage.

One of the best places to start your search for somewhere to live is at your university. Most will have advertising boards displaying details of accommodation that is available for students to rent. It is also worth spending some time chatting to friends and fellow students to see if they can assist you in your search and answer any questions you may have. Spending some time browsing the web is also a great place to find properties in the area.

It can often be hard for new students to budget their monthly income when first away from the family home and some will take on extra jobs to help pay the bills. A solution to this problem is to take on a larger apartment and share the accommodation with someone else who is studying at your university. This is a good solution for many as it enables all costs to be split equally between tenants.

When committing to renting a property it is worth taking a little time to think about the additional costs of any furnishings or electrical goods you may need. Fully furnished flats are available but will be more expensive and most are offered as part furnished. Another point to consider is that the first months rent will usually be double as it will include a refundable damage deposit.

The majority of complexes that offer student accommodation also have other facilities on site that are included in your monthly payment. Swimming pools, gyms and communal areas are often available for use as well as study rooms with internet access. Facilities such as internet cafes and bars are also often on site but are on a pay as you use basis.

The larger complexes that have apartments to rent are usually very nearby the university and this is a big advantage. It can often save students substantial amounts of money by taking away the need to pay for transport. In some areas free transfers to and from the university are provided free of charge and this also helps to save a few dollars.

As well as working out the financial side of things it is worth taking some time to think about how long you wish to stay in the property. Most letting agents will want you to sign a six or twelve month contract or maybe longer. It can often be beneficial to sign a longer term agreement as it can bring down the total cost if you pay well in advance.
