Thinking About Changing Your Garage?

By Peter Anderson

Garage design is a broad topic. There are a lot of options to consider when building or renovating a garage. It can add substantial value to your home if done correctly. To make sure you don't end up redecorating over and over consider the following subjects carefully before you begin.

The first option to consider is the color. Have a look at garage design websites to get some cool paint ideas. If you're the type of person with hands-on hobbies you may be almost living in this room. If you go for a color that's too vibrant it could be tiring after a while. Perhaps you're going to be storing a boat in here, a nautical theme would be a fun option. A duskier choice would have a cozy effect if that's the style you wanted to go for.

Lighting choices are extremely important. LED lights would be my recommendation. They're low maintenance and come in a variety of styles. The classic long tube can be a bit industrial but spots or lamps are pretty chic. Again, have a look online for garage lighting ideas.

Garage cabinets will be needed depending on the jobs you'll be performing there. There are many plans for garage cabinets to choose from with large brand names available. Menards garage storage and IKEA garage cabinets are two choices you should consider. Try to go for options which suit the color on the walls. Sliders on the draws help you to access your tools instead of rummaging through toolkits. Having a routine for returning your tools might take a couple weeks to get used to but will be very helpful once you're accustomed to it.

Detached garages are another option if you don't have a space in your main home. Menards garage kits and Lowes garage packages are a good choice here. There are a number of advantages to this set up, being able to have your own space for creating a man cave away from the distractions of the main house can be a welcome respite.

An author would especially like the peace and quiet. A mechanic or carpenter may also prefer this set up. If you were looking to create a man cave you could add couches and maybe a table tennis table.

There's a surprisingly large array of sizes available. Everything from a small unit to store a lawnmower and other tools to spaces big enough they could almost store light aircraft! Price will depend heavily on the size and quality you want. It may be possible to find items on sale but it's usually worth the extra investment to get exactly what you want.
