An Overview Of Natural Mosquito Trap

By Shawn Hunter

There are many mosquito species across the world. Some of these species feed on nectar obtained from flowers while others feed on human blood. Mosquitoes are carriers of very serious but rare diseases such as Malaria and West Nile. The use of natural mosquito trap is being embraced all over the world because it is a pocket friendly method.

Over the years, insecticides and sprays have been used solely to kill mosquitoes. However, these insects have become immune and continue to pose serious threat towards humans. These poisons have been able to exterminate insects indiscriminately. Other than those mentioned, these poisons are very expensive and most people cannot afford them. Some have also been known to increase electricity bills in households.

Used soda bottles are the best for this procedure. Cut the bottle into half. Measure a cupful of brown sugar and pour into a bowl. Boil water and use it to mix the sugar. Add active dry yeast to the mixture and stir. Once it turns frothy, pour it into the bottom part of the bottle. Put the funnel like part of the bottle into the bottom and tape them together. Use a black cloth to conceal the bottle and put it a place not frequented.

As much as mosquitoes are a nuisance to us, it is advised that they only be killed when they pose real danger. This is because these insects are important to our economy. They are the main pollinators of the cocoa plant thus without them, there would not be any chocolate which is very unfortunate. Consequently, the insects should be eliminated sparingly.

After the rains, water is always left behind in puddles. Such places are where mosquitoes breed. Grass and other vegetation left uncut also act as breeding places for these parasites. So to keep mosquitoes away, water management should be the first thing to be considered along with draining stagnant water. This method ensures that homes are free of mosquito infestation.

In the tropics, use of mosquito nets has increased. The nets are washed in pesticides thus kill the mosquitoes immediately they land on them. Some citizens also use bronze gauze on their windows that keeps them away from the house. Use of nets is most appropriate especially the white ones.

Certain fish species fish species such as the tilapia have also been used to reduce the population of mosquitoes. These parasites have their larvae in these ponds so the fish eat them. These are but some of the few control measures. Such mosquito trap has become famous in areas with serious mosquito infestation. You can sit out on your patio and enjoy the cool breeze at night without being bothered by the irritating buzz of these insects.

The soda bottle trap is natural in every sense. It reduces pollution on the environment because it makes use of the plastic wastes. It is economical and simple. For the solution to be effective, it has to be changed often. Mosquitoes can therefore be trapped naturally if one does not have the repellent.
