General Information To Know About Chemical Free Cleaning

By Joanna Walsh

Cleanliness is a priority for most people. They want to live, work and play in spaces that are neat and in order. To keep spaces as clean as possible, cleaning rituals and chores should be done regularly. Most of the products on the market that are designed for this purpose include polluting and toxic chemicals as part of their active ingredients. These chemicals are likely to make the environment more toxic, possible even causing allergic reactions or other issues. Still, there are plenty of solutions available for those interested in chemical free cleaning.

Cleaning products available today are typically expensive and include a long list of ingredients, most of which the general public cannot identify. Exposure to these formulas is like exposure to toxins that are likely to compromise health in the long run. Many different substitutions and solutions can be made in the home and used with the same results. Manufactures are noticing how popular the green and toxic-free movements are getting and seeking to make products that match consumer needs.

People who do not have the desire or time to make their own chemical free products are encouraged to look into what manufacturers are providing non-toxic options on the market. Commercial brands may have a special line of goods free of many toxins and more friendly to the environment and its people. These may have less chemicals and irritants in their formula but are not always entirely green. The price for these may be more expensive than traditional products, but the extra money is considered a worthy investment for many. After all, it is far cheaper than a bill from the doctor after a person becomes sick and it helps contribute to a less polluted and more sustainable environment.

Consult reviews and ratings prior to testing out different products. Many of these are sold and general stores and retail shops that stock cleaning goods. The ingredients list is important and worth looking over. This is where consumers can gather more information about what they are being exposed to with this formula and the proper instructions on how to use the formula for maximum effectiveness and safety.

Natural options are available. Most can easily be made using ingredients that will not break the bank. For instance, baking soda is inexpensive and widely available. It can be used for a number of cleaning purposes, such as: softening water, deodorizing and scouring. Unscented soap is considered biodegradable and an effective tool for cleaning. This may be available in liquid, powder, bar or flake form.

The high acid content in lemon makes its juice ideal for fighting bacteria. Borax or sodium borate is often used for disinfecting, softening water and deodorizing. White vinegar works well for odors, stains, mildew and build up of wax. Washing soda can be used for similar purposes and cleans up kitchen and bathroom tubs, tiles, walls and sinks.

Citrus solvent helps manage oil, grease and stains. Cornstarch may be effective on carpet, rugs, windows and furniture. Do-it-yourself recipes can be found by doing some research. Many sources provide info on how to create these toxic-free and natural solutions. Plus, they might have tips on how to achieve and maintain a clean and green space.

Even homemade formulas need to be labeled. They should also be kept away from kids for safety reasons. A clean environment is often a healthy one. Cleanliness makes spaces more comfortable and inviting.
