Tile Patterns Turn The Ordinary Home Into The Extraordinary Home

By Mike Hartwick

When thinking about your flooring or wall surface project, be sure to consider one of the best choices available, tile. A worldwide favorite, it comes in an enormous variety of shapes, sizes, colors and patterns. With so much to choose from it's easy to create any look or feel you want. This is especially true when using tile patterns.

Some patterns are rather basic and are fairly easy to install so they are perfect for individuals that are new to working with tile. The straight lay and the diagonal tile patterns are both rather simple patterns that can be used in large rooms. Some people like to stagger one or two colors with these patterns to give the pattern a more personalized look. Another simple yet classic pattern is called the checkerboard pattern.

The checkerboard is a black and white tile pattern that creates a checkerboard look that is a great choice for bathrooms as well as kitchens. A lot of homes that feature the checkerboard pattern will use black for a base wall trim to match. This pattern has been used for hundreds of years and is considered to be a timeless look. It is advisable to only use The checkerboard pattern in a room that will have simple decor with very few other colors to compete with this pattern.

Some people desire a more elegant pattern such as the Versailles, which is a French pattern. This pattern is an excellent choice when wanting to bring a little bit of flair to any room. Many people use stone or clay tiles in at least three colors to stagger this pattern. A Versailles pattern looks great in any room but is perfect for large rooms. The unique pattern uses four different tile sizes, so the pattern appears to be constantly changing with different sizes, shapes and colors.

Many people are partial to intricate looking tile patterns. If this is you, the pinwheel and basket weave are a nice choice. They both use more than one color and create a flowing appearance. And of course they look like their name suggest, one similar to that of a spinning pinwheel and the other to the over-under weave of a basket. The herringbone tile pattern is also another intricate looking option.

Small rooms and narrow hallways really can benefit from a pattern like the herringbone and it's a good idea to look into if that's the type of space you are dealing with. It is a V-shaped pattern which creates the illusion that the room is much bigger than it really is.

Tile patterns when used the right way can help to transform your home. Not only will they add to its beauty but its value as well. With unbeatable function and style using tile for your next wall or floor project is a smart investment!
