Sleep Soundly With Bed Bug Detection Tools

By Earlene McGee

Before going to sleep, families often exchange good nights to one another. Mothers, most especially, make it a point that the bed of their children are clean, tidy and as much as possible, free from any bed bugs that may disturb the sleep of little kids. However, it is very difficult to know whether or not there are bed bugs because they are so tiny they cannot be immediately seen by the naked eye.

These little pests hide in crevices and small cracks. You can suspect of their presence if you see some brown or black stains on the mattress of the bed. They also excrete a distinct musty smell. To make your life simpler, there are tools used to detect them. Bed bug detection Boston can offer such tools like carbon dioxide monitors, interception tools, and even the nose of a dog.

These pests can be seen by your naked eye but your vision is not enough to monitor how bad the infestation is. Hence, your vision is not the best tool for this. There could still be hundreds of others hiding and breeding in floor boards, bed frames, and other areas where your vision could not reach.

If you are aware where they are hiding, you can also use magnifying glass and a flashlight to aid you in finding the eggs and smaller ones. Your bare eyes are not enough weapons to totally remove these things from your sofas and beds. You can also turn to the internet for more tips.

Hence, it can be concluded that this is not a very effective method. On the positive note, there are some other means to stop these blood suckers. Encasement of the mattress has been an effective tool used to enclose box springs and mattresses for protection. With the presence of the insects, they can be exposed from the inside out making them easier to eliminate.

If this does not satisfy you either, try to call experts in canine scent procedure. Dogs are effective in sniffing out the pests and they can detect infestations at ninety five percent of precision. This is according to laboratory results. However, the real setting is of low precision, so this is still unreliable.

A simpler device may help. It is called an interception device which is a trap placed under the leg of the bed. Its purpose is to intercept and catch the pests as they climb over the surface. As they fall into the pit, they will not be able to climb up and escape because interceptors are really slippery and smooth.

There are also commercially available gadgets used for monitoring and eliminating the pests. Some of these use carbon dioxide as attractants, while others use chemicals and heat. You may also combine all the other mentioned methods to achieve greater results.

If you do not want to invest on such devices, you can make your own. Get an extra feeding bowl, an insulated container, dry ice, and masking tape. But be extra careful with dry ice because it may cause respiratory harm and it can also burn you when you come into contact with it. For your own safety, contact a professional.
