Lakeland FL Chiropractic Office Helps Relieve Whiplash Pain

By Donna Beley

The pain resulting from a whiplash injury can be excruciating. The victim is unable to turn his head from right to left. The stiffness makes it hurt to stand up, sit down or lie down to sleep. A car accident may cause a person to seek the care of a Lakeland FL Chiropractor for pain alleviation that does not require prescription meds or surgery.

Most people have heard of the harm that can be done to an infant who is shaken roughly. The child's head is jerked backward and forward causing injury leading to death. In a rear end crash the occupants in the car suffer a similar injury.

Since seat belts started to be installed in all cars, many live have been saved. The riders can no longer be thrown from the car in a crash. The injury known as whiplash, however, is not preventable.

The stiffness and pain may not begin immediately following the accident. Hours and even days may pass before the injury begins to manifest itself. The head can be stabilized by wearing a cervical collar, but only for a short time.

The spinal column is composed of small bones called vertebrae. There are seven of them in the neck. If one or more are misaligned, it may cause pressure to the nerve roots located there. The pressure causes pain.

Chiropractic care cannot be administered until a thorough assessment of the injury has been made. This is done by a physical examination of the spine. In many cases an x-ray confirms the condition of the neck.

The exam is completed by asking a series of questions. Only when the chiropractor feels the client will be helped with a specific care plan will one be scheduled. Spinal adjustments to return the vertebrae to their correct position are known to be very effective.

The adjustments will serve to realign the vertebrae in the neck that are causing pain by impacting the nerves located there. It will result in a lessening of the pain over time. The stiffness will gradually be relaxed and the client can return to normal activities once again.
