How to Stop Drinking Alcohol

Many individuals who abuse alcohol know the reasons why they have to give up drinking, but the how continues to puzzle even this most diligent person among us. Its possible that you've lost many jobs and have legal problems. Maybe your partner has dumped you or your family is tired of your behavior. All reasons why you have to look at your drinking and really think about stopping.

Sadly, there are no magic pills or gimmicky methods. In order to quit drinking alcohol, you should go through a process to learn how to live without liquor. For some, it is going to be painful; alcohol cravings can be lengthy. The great news is there are strategies and tools that can help you be successful. For heavy drinkers who would go through withdrawal and detox, it is vital to ask for your doctor's suggestion before quitting. For some individuals, the pain and discomfort is minimal. lots of alcoholics have gone through this a time or two on their own. It can take years before one could get rid of the physical cravings. You would not succeed if you don't learn to live a life with no alcohol. Just one of 1000 alcoholics stay sober for a couple of years. If you're determined enough then you could be that ONE.

If you need more convincing then think of the money you could save if you stop going to clubs and buying alcohol. With the legal fees, you could bring home your whole income. Make sure you have the numbers right when you check your budget and credit card statements. Try to figure out how much alcohol is costing you not only physically, mentally, relationally but financially.

This type of honest introspection is something you will need to get used to in order to come to terms with your life and recover fully. You would realize when you are ready and committed to quit drinking liquor.

Ask for Recommendation from a Physician

A physician will assess the damage you've done to your system. The physician can also assess how you should quit drinking. There are two options - do it alone or be medically supervised in a hospital.

Telling People You Trust Could be Helpful

Another effective method to quit drinking is to tell trusted people who will understand that you're going to give up drinking and you might need their support. Most people are flattered and would be there to support and help you through the difficult period.

Its Vital to Go to Meetings

12 Step Meetings is a great place to meet others who have experienced the same thing you're going through. Searching for 12 Step meetings within your neighborhood would get you started. Different meetings draw various individuals. Attend lots of meetings all around your neighborhood; in fact, you should go to 90 meetings within ninety days. These meetings will give you all of the info you need about how to quit drinking liquor.

If you have reached this point then that is something to be very proud of. Now its time to start a new life...one that doesn't involve drinking alcohol.
