There has been an increased number of people who opt to order goods from other countries. During the shipping process, there has been a rise in cases on unclaimed freight in various ports. These items are salvaged and in most cases stored in huge bulk stores as they await the respective owners to claim them. In cases where the items are not claimed for a long time, the respective shipping companies have every right to find a way to dispose of these items. Some may opt to auction these items directly or hire auctioning a liquidator companies to take up the job of selling the items.

During the shipping process, the addresses on the goods can easily get erased. Also, goods can easily get spoilt during the process. This has thus called for strict measures to be put up in order to ensure that these goods are taken care of and that they do not go to waste.

Due to the nature of work in these shipping companies, the handlers of these goods can easily mix the goods up accidentally. A single mistake could result to delivery of the goods to the wrong location or simply damage of the goods. It is thus important for employees in these companies to have vast knowledge on handling goods.

In cases where the owner is under investigation and maybe all his assets are frozen, goods can easily get auctioned for being unclaimed. This is because failure to pay or get the goods in time only gives the shipping companies the authority to auction the goods. In other cases, the goods could have been used in illegal dealings without the knowledge of the owner. The good are thus held up in the warehouses awaiting investigations and once completed, the shipping companies may opt to auction them.

Import tax can be very high and that is the reason why everyone should be aware of all costs that come with importing goods to avoid these huge losses.Sometimes, the owners of those goods may just decide to disappear and abandon the cargo. It could be due to legal reasons or other personal reasons. Doing so renders the goods unclaimed. This puts the goods in the hands of the shipping companies who may in turn opt to auction.

In some cases, the owner of the goods may have suffered an accident or ailment that rendered them incapacitated. This puts them in a condition that claiming the goods becomes difficult especially where they do not have an agent or the necessary documentation to prove that the goods belong to them. This cases automatically make the goods unclaimed and left in the custody of the shipping companies.

In some cases some goods may not be cleared for collection by the port officials due to legal issues. For instance, the freight may have been used in illegal deals. In these cases, the freight is not cleared from the ports. The investigations and court cases may take a very long time.Ones completed, most of these goods are left unclaimed since once the cases are completed the need for these goods may no longer be there.

Unclaimed cargo collection is a big business. There has been formation of the many auctioning companies who offer their services to the many shipping companies. These companies have in the recent past been making a good sum of money from the careless owners who leave their high quality products unclaimed. It is important for all individuals who import any products to know the result of failing to claim their goods.
