Looking For Vintage Guitar Amplifier Parts

By Joshua Meyer

Many guitarists will buy and use equipment that was manufactured many years ago for various reasons. When this equipment develops a fault it will need repairing and in some cases spares will be needed. When you are looking for vintage guitar amplifier parts there are many places where you can buy them and it is advisable to do some research on the various suppliers.

A lot of components are used to build an amplifier and every item is essential to the way the unit works. Older amps will use valves which were needed before the introduction of transistor and solid state models. Other components will include switches, wiring, control pots and the cab that houses everything.

Rare and vintage amplifiers can be worth huge sums of money and it is imperative that the right spares are used when repairs are being carried out. It is also better to use factory original components when possible for optimum performance and to retain the amps value. All work should be done by a trained technician to make sure that the job is done properly and safely.

When spares are required you can visit a local guitar store that may be able to supply the items that you need. A large number of these stores will have good stocks of components or they can place an order with a manufacturer. A lot of the stores will also have a workshop where their trained technicians carry out repair work on musical instruments and other equipment.

If the factory that made your amp is still in business you can contact them and they may be able to supply your components. A lot of manufacturers will keep spares for older models and they may have your item in stock. When you need to buy a vacuum tube or a hard to find item it is worth buying more than one so that you have them when they are needed.

The internet is another useful place where you can find a supplier that will have the spares that you are looking for. You can browse their web sites and look at their lists of stock and if you find your item you can order and it will be dispatched to your home. If you are unsure about an item you are able to submit the details of your amplifier and the supplier will search for the part that you need.

When you have ordered and paid for your spares and they have been fitted it is important to keep your purchase receipts. Many spares are covered with a manufacturer warranty and they will be replaced if they are faulty. If you buy components and do not fit them immediately they need to be stored in the packaging to keep them safe until you are ready to use them.

There are various things that you should do to keep an amplifier in good condition and to avoid costly repair work. When you are not using your amp it should be stored away in a safe place and well away from extreme heat or moisture. An amp should be regularly inspected and serviced by a technician and you need to make sure that you clean the unit on a regular basis.
