Decorative Concrete Has Many Possible Uses

By Troy Wilkerson

When decorative concrete is used to mimic the more expensive marble or flagstone, it gives the appearance of the higher priced material without costing as much. It may be stained, colored, stamped or polished. Each finish is practical when it comes to maintenance.

When textured and stamped, it will appear to be flagstone, brick, tile or wood. It can lend an attractive touch to the driveway, courtyard or patio. It is popular because it can be used in the color of choice. It creates the look of the more expensive materials without adding the higher cost.

Use these fancy finishes in large and small areas. When a small area is stamped to look like more expensive stone or marble, it can be a very attractive accent. Some homeowners are choosing a color for the driveway approaching the garage, with a narrow border on each side in a slightly darker shade. The border can give the look of tiles or bricks.

Imagine a pale pink patio in any size or shape. When a red border of brick is added, the effect can be outstanding. Some homeowners prefer all red tone concrete, some plain and some treated to a special finish such as staining. The red tones look wonderful when used on the area surrounding a swimming pool.

Inside the home, a polished version of this practical and pretty flooring can mimic the reflective beauty of the real marble floor. It is easy to maintain and gives you that mirror finish that the marble is noted for. It is often used for a recreation room, an entry hall or a basement.

Imagine using a simulated brick concrete around the fireplace. Match the fireplace surround to the color of the floor, or coordinate it in a lighter or darker shade. Get that high priced look using decorative concrete, without the matching price tag. All are both beautiful and durable.
